Fund raising started for Little Free Library Project:

The Highams Park Plan Arts and Culture Group (ARC) are working in partnership with Little Free Library Project UK (LFLP) to bring the wonderful Little Free Libraries project to Highams Park.  We aim to install a network of three little free libraries in Highams Park. Each will be uniquely designed by a local artist, and hosted by a local resident or business. Each Little Free Library is filled with books for communities to share, and anyone is welcome to take a book, or leave one they have finished with for someone else to enjoy.

If you would like to donate some money to help get this project off the ground you can donate online as little as £1 or as much as you like by clicking on this link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1332488210/little-free-library-project-for-highams-park?ref=users

ARC will be hosting a second hand book stall at Sunday’s farmers market to raise funds towards the project. The market will also be attended by reps from the Little Free Libraries project, who will bring along one of their fantastic creations and will be available to answer any questions.  There will also be an online fundraising campaign through Kickstarter – any donations will go directly towards enabling the building and installation of the little free libraries so please support the campaign if you are able to do so.

If you are interested in designing or hosting one of the little free libraries please email the ARC team at lfl.highamspark@gmail.com

The Little Free Libraries concept started in the USA in 2009 when Todd Bol of Hudson, Wisconsin, built a replica of a schoolhouse as a tribute to his mother, a former teacher. He filled it with books and put it on a post in his front garden with a sign that said FREE BOOKS. His neighbours loved it and soon he was building more Little Free Libraries. There are now thousands worldwide. Little Free Library Project UK (Registered Charity No. 1158557) builds and installs Little Free Libraries across the country to promote reading, art and community engagement. Earlier this year they installed a network of 12 Little Free Libraries in Walthamstow, which have quickly become much loved and valued by readers and art lovers across the area.
